John Quinn – Veterinary Surgeon

John Quinn

John is originally from Ballinamore.  He qualified from UCD in 1999 with an honours degree in Large Animal Medicine.  He worked in Cootehill, Co. Cavan for 2 years before returning to Leitrim.  He purchased the practice from James Madden in July 2001 as a two vet practice.  Over the past 12 years he has built up the practice to include an extensive Large Animal practice as well as the Small Animal hospital.  John has a keen interest in farming and enjoys his herd of suckler cattle.  When he isn’t working he is enjoying time on the farm with the kids or cycling.

Paula Bergeson-Quinn – Veterinary Surgeon

Paula Bergeson-Quinn

Paula is originally from Illinois in the USA.  She studied Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois, as a prerequisite to veterinary medicine.  She graduated from UIUC in 1994 and came to Ireland to pursue a course in veterinary medicine in the hope of getting into the equine industry.  While in college, she discovered that small animals were her passion.  She qualified from UCD with honours  in 1999 and went into mixed practice in Co. Dublin for 1 year.  She then worked in a small animal clinic in Dublin city centre for 2 years.  In 2002,  Paula  moved to Leitrim to help John develop the small animal side of the practice.  She spends her free time with their 3 children, gardening and horse riding.

Joe Collins – Veterinary Surgeon

Joe Collins

Joe is originally from Kilmore, Carrick-on-Shannon.  He received a degree in Science from UCD in 1995 before going on to study Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow.  He qualified in 2000 and started work in a mixed practice in Boyle.  Joe then moved to England where he worked in primarily small animal practice in Cumbria.  He returned to his home county in 2007 when he started working in this practice.  Joe too has a keen interest in livestock farming and enjoys time with his children.

Owen Hand – Veterinary Surgeon

Owen is from South Roscommon.  He comes from a strong farming background mainly in cattle and sheep.  Owen graduated from UCD Veterinary College in 2009 and came to work here in Mohill in June of that year.  Owen has a particular interest in Bovine Medicine.

Michael Quinn – Veterinary Surgeon

Michael is also from Ballinamore .  He graduated with a degree in financial and actuarial mathematics in DCU in 2003 before going on to study veterinary medicine in UCD and qualified in 2009.  He went back to his home county to work in the practice.  He spends most of his free time following the local GAA team.

 

Martina Mulvey – Receptionist

Martina Mulvey

Martina is originally from Gortlettra, and is now living in Cloone.  She is our longest serving member of staff, having worked for the previous owner.  Martina is an integral part of the office ‘machinery’ and will gladly help you with any query you might have.    She has also served on the Cloone Agricultural Committee for many years.

Amanda O’Connell – Reception and Accounts

Amanda is originally from Dublin.  She has lived in Ballinamore since 2001.  Amanda has a background in Veterinary Nursing and Human Resource Management.  Amanda joined the practice in 2002 and has filled a number of positions including veterinary nurse, receptionist and accounts manager.  She is currently studying for a graduate certificate in Veterinary Practice Management.  She enjoys time at home with the kids working on her husband’s sheep and cattle farm.

Martina Wynne R.V.N.

Martina is originally from Ballinaglera in North Leitrim.  She qualified as a veterinary nurse from The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London in 2000.  Martina has worked in a number of practices in Dublin, Wicklow, Meath, London and Australia before returning to Leitrim.  She joined the Ashwood team in 2007.  She has a special interest in small animal emergency medicine and does shifts in the Dublin Emergency Clinic in UCD in her free time.

Claire Maxwell – Veterinary Nurse

Claire if from Ballinamore and has been working part-time in the practice since the Spring of 2000.   Presently, Claire is finishing her final year of the veterinary nursing course in UCD and will be qualifying as an RVN in June 2014.  Claire has a genuine love of animals and enjoys nursing patients back to health.  In her spare time she enjoys music and dancing.

Rhona Flynn

Rhona Flynn

Rhona is from Fenagh.  She joined the practice part time in the  Spring of 2007.  Although she works in the office, Rhona has a great interest in all aspects of animal care and enjoys observing the vets as they work.
